Stichting Taalmenu
“True democracy begins with knowledge being freely available to everyone.” — Thomas Piketty
Stichting Taalmenu is a non-profit foundation established in October 2006 by Frans Snik, René den Nijs and Ed Kniesmeijer. The current board consists of Martin Coffeng (chair), René den Nijs (treasurer and secretary), Willempje Eiting and Aynur Tamay. Board members are not paid for their work; they receive only a small allowance for expenses related to their board duties.
A changing group of volunteers and a few self-employed contractors keep the website up to date.
Our aim is to contribute to free education for everyone, especially people who do not yet have a sufficient command of Dutch. In today’s knowledge-based society, everyone should have access to good, free learning materials to develop their skills and improve their opportunities.
One of the foundation’s core activities is nt2taalmenu.nl, a free website for anyone who wants to learn Dutch or prepare for civic integration.
Since 2012, the general education website openleercentrum.com has also been available. It brings together links to educational materials on a wide range of subjects. Anyone who wants to learn is welcome, from people learning to read and write to academics.
Stichting Taalmenu has expertise in teaching Dutch as a second language (NT2) and civic integration, developing learning programmes, teaching computer skills, setting up and managing educational websites and open learning centres, and reviewing public information for accessibility to people with limited Dutch.

In memoriam: Frans Snik
On Friday 8 March 2019, we received the sad news that our colleague Frans Snik, secretary of Stichting Taalmenu and a member of the editorial team of nt2taalmenu.nl, had passed away the previous day.
Frans played a crucial role, particularly in the site’s early years. He developed exercises at an extraordinary pace and, as webmaster, built the website from the ground up. Much of his work still forms a core part of the materials offered on proef.nt2taalmenu.nl. We will miss him.
